1.
all those years I bit my tongue while you thought I was the loser, made me feel like all the things I wanted were mutually exclusive. pictures from our life are your least favorite allegories. always calling people failures but were missing half the story. I was bit by the curse of inertia felt there was no reason for what I wanted but desire was never reasonable and maybe nor was being with you. to love and be loved all while being what you said I'm not
2.
it's hard to find someone with such pride you dress like everyone else to try and hide. we watch your life fall further into shit everyday and there's part of you that likes it. cause you were born to be tragically hip and bein a bit vain's always been a part of it. what you hate about yourself is what you hate about your country what you hate about your father you always fall for in little kids. never wanna expose how desperate you are unless you won't remember the next day that you did. cause you were born to be tragically hip and bein a bit strange has always been a part of it. yea you were born to be tragically hip. it's always your way or nothing. there's no compromising

Total Gold 04:19
we were blue bait in a red state. you were puttin on black make up as I tried to wake up. it was friday on the freeway I rolled the windows up to help you out with the breakin up. and even in my faux fur coat I was still cold. me and you together on our way total gold. fifteen paces away from the door of our place i felt your longing eyes pierce me and look deep inside of me. always wanting so much when I'm mad you're all cheery yea it hurts a whole lot that you seem pissed when I'm happy. and as I look to lily to ask for a light I feel sorry for your heart as it sinks. but really I just couldn't mind too busy hoping my red lip stick would fetch me a few free drinks inside. well I guess that's just the curse of what they call a free spirit. you watch the happiness it gave you leave if you try to tame it. I didn't want to be the best just wanted to be my best. I couldn't be that with you what did you want me to do. one more night where we drink wine and dance to frankie baby. I'll keep all my thoughts silent and pretend you're still my baby. still my baby
4.
I think that I like you but maybe I like how you make me look. all black hair makes me fall to the ground and I'm lookin up at an angle. drink and smoke every time we hangout. maybe we'll make out sometime. and I tried so hard to avoid dependence throughout my childhood. but I'm here with you now always up to no good. I've got a penchant for doin what I know I should not. I think that I want you to touch me but maybe i just want to hear your voice. you know what I mean like you've seen what I've seen. you talk like I wish I could talk. cute little boy with your nails painted black I wanna give it up but I'm lookin for real love. and I tried so hard to show you that I could be anything you wanted. but I'm here with you now and it's well understood that we'll be more later if were less in the meantime
5.
Dream Vision 02:50
I've got a dream vision with nothing to show for it. I've got a close group of friends that think I'm losing it. can't even make the ones I love believe in me. I can't stay in one place for as long as it takes to make anything happen. how many mistakes can you really make. I'd be more worried if everything was great. I want the ones that love me to see what I can see. but I can't help but feel ashamed because still no one pays me
6.
Put in a Box 04:29
I don't think you're good for me. we just see the world too differently. there are a lot of things that bother me that never seem to bother you. you're so quick to declare her genius when all she's done is do what she feels. always content to blame your circumstance. to make a mark on someone else's heart seems improbable and can't be real. well I can tell everyone except the one that needs to know that I'll be moving on. I don't think you're good for me always say you can't so certainly. when everything seems perfect your the first to be unhappy. you can't be put in a box. you're all original thought changin what you like once they pin point your type. well I can tell everyone except the one that needs to know that I'll be moving on.
7.
a competition exists it feels good then it hits and I feel lower than I've felt in days. and it's hard to resist cause it feels good to fit in. I can hate it but who can I blame. yea who can I blame. and occasionally it gets recognized but you can't always stand high enough to see your out of place. expectations I make. they're always mistakes I should be happy with nothing at all. you can choose to dissent to sit on the bench be a dreamer stuck in a dream. but a competition exists the reasons why unconscious everyone just plays to feel embraced. to feel embraced. a competition exists. it feels good then it hits and I feel lower than I've felt in days.

Mama Said 04:16
you shaped your life like it was a piece of art. carefully curated all the eccentricities. like your favorite novel there were no words unnecessary. we watched you meticulously pick what you did with each week. well don't forget what mama said were all found out by somebody. you can write the perfect story but they'll find a name for you and me eventually. an elaborate tale can be relayed by just one picture easily. then you live the life portrayed or give yourself away. at some point along the way. we all became our favorite cliches. now you're livin in a black house contradictin what you preach. and it's okay. well don't forget what mama said this life's a dream you can't redeem. so write the perfect story you always liked the darkest movies

about

Superflaw is the side project of Anthony Cunard, prolific songwriter and lead vocalist of Manor’s own lo-fi dream-pop troubadours, Blanky. He’s joined in Superflaw by frequent collaborators and good friends, Edward Madill and Daniel Ryan. While Blanky tends to experiment in the obscure realm of gothic minimalism, Superflaw has honed in on the now classic aesthetics of early 90’s alt-rock. The production and songwriting of ‘Fictitious’ brings to mind favored underground big wigs such as Pavement, Superchunk, or Bright Eyes. Like most great records, ‘Fictitious’ wrestles with the trials and tribulations of love all while seemlessly pivoting between major themes of political isolationism and imposter syndrome. As is typical of most projects Cunard is associated with, the lyrics are an important focal point along with the emphasis placed on creating a raw production. While many records made today sound sterile and “pristine” due to their being recorded entirely on a computer, ‘Fictitious’ embraces the bleed and spontaneity long appreciated by analog enthusiasts. There’s a certain chemistry that can only be captured in a recording when the players have been tracked while performing together simultaneously. The result of such endeavors is often a visceral reaction in the stomachs of skilled listeners. Those in search of this elusive fix will find what they’ve been looking for in Superflaw’s ‘Fictitious’. We recommend to anyone that enjoyed Blanky’s 2020 release, ‘No Summertime’ to give this record a solid playthrough. It not only highlights another facet of a versatile artist but it serves as a pleasant reminder that there are still gems underground to be found.
